Actual and Factual
Let's start with the facts straight from their website!
Horizon is a heavy DK / lightly worsted weight yarn made of 100% premium acrylic. The yarn goes through Hi-Bulk (HB) processing, steaming the yarn to get a softer feel. It is spun from anti-pilling acrylic fibers, making the yarn less likely to pill compared to standard acrylic. Each cake has the "easy start" feature tab so you can center-pull without fighting the yarn.
The yarn is currently available in 15+ colors. Each cake is 601yd/550m in length and 7.1oz/200g in weight. The suggested hook size is .15mm and the suggested needles size is 4mm.
My Experience
I feel that this yarn is much closer to a category 4 weight than a category 3 as described on their website. I find it better to use a 5mm or 5.5mm hook over the label suggestions for me and my personal tension. Your choice of hook style or shape also matters because if it's too pointed at the tip, it can split your yarn; so look for rounded tips. The yarn is quite affordable and has become a staple in my stash.
My Favorite Projects for This Yarn
I have used this yarn for beanies, and when tripled as a substitute for super bulky weight, an amigurumi project.
